Squad Leader​/Master Technician

The primary function of this position is to troubleshoot, remove, install, replace, re‑build, repair, and test parts/equipment on construction equipment while leading and coaching other technicians.

• Check equipment and supplies required to perform scheduled work, comply with PPE requirements, and prepare for duties.
• Use manuals, repair guides, parts diagrams, and other resources to perform independent troubleshooting and repair of construction equipment.
• Employ lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aids to lift or move parts into position for repair.
• Utilize hand and power tools to remove, install, replace, re‑build, repair, and test parts/equipment.
• Maintain proficiency in using computers and tools to reference parts, obtain information, and enter data into record systems.
• Disassemble and reassemble components, clean parts with rags, cleaners, or power washers, and use test equipment to conduct diagnostic checks.
• Climb up, under, and into vehicles to gain access to all parts.
• Use overhead hoists, lift devices, forklifts, and other aids to move items off vehicles and position parts for disassembly, repair, and reassembly.
• Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and repair of engine, power train, hydraulic, and electrical components at an advanced level on numerous model lines.
• Lift, carry, and position rams to remove idlers, unbolt idlers, and remove them for repair.
• Use power washers and spray paint equipment to clean and paint vehicles.
• Operate instruments and computers to reprogram equipment controllers.
• Assist the supervisor with performance appraisals.

• Direct day‑to‑day job assignments and responsibilities for to five or more technicians in a squad.
• Work with squad members to ensure proper T/S techniques are used so the product meets customer and GPEC expectations.

• High school education or GED required.
• Eight years of Cat equipment experience with comprehensive knowledge of all equipment systems (engines, hydraulics, electrical, sub‑electrical, transmissions, etc.) across most model lines.
• Capable of daily stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing to access various equipment for diagnosis and repairs.
• Proficient in visual inspection, research of technical manuals, and writing repair work‑order reports.
• Able to routinely lift or position parts up to 100 pounds and use mechanical hoists for heavier items.
• Strong cognitive reasoning and problem‑solving skills to apply written information and verbal instructions to repairing unknown or unusual technical equipment issues.
• Experience with PC‑based equipment and parts information.
• Independent worker with minimal supervision, effective communication, training of other technicians, work assignment allocation, and promotion of good customer service.
