Position: SALES ENGINEER

Overview

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring a Sales Engineer in Richmond, Virginia. The Sales Engineer is responsible for supporting the Power Systems Outside Sales Team with technically accurate, detailed, and timely power generation proposals for generator sets, switch gear, fuel systems, and weatherproof enclosures. The Sales Engineer will work in a team setting with the outside sales team to win new business with competitive proposals.

Seeking candidates with a minimum three years sales and/or projects experience, preferably in Power Generation and/or Marine. Other similar industries will be considered;
Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Power Systems Outside Sales Team with technically accurate, detailed, and timely power generation proposals for generator sets, switch gear, fuel systems, and weatherproof enclosures.
  • Collaborate with the outside sales team to win new business with competitive proposals.
  • Develop and implement effective bid materials and sales/training presentations.
  • Interact with contractors, consultants, engineers, and end-users; liaise with other sales team members and technical support to solve client problems.
  • Communicate effectively with the outside sales team and internal stakeholders; maintain professional interactions at all levels.
  • Travel as required by the job and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of three years of sales and/or projects experience, preferably in Power Generation and/or Marine; other similar industries will be considered;
    Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree preferred.
  • Self-starter who can work with limited supervision, set priorities, and implement ideas in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with the outside Sales Team.
  • Experience dealing with multiple disciplines (contractors, consultants, engineers, end-users); ability to act as a liaison with other members of the sales team and technical support.
  • Ability to work in a team setting to win new business with competitive proposals; strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presenting skills; ability to develop and deliver effective bid materials and training presentations.
  • Willingness to travel and meet required work hours; ability to communicate using telephone and computer.
  • Ability to handle large volumes of work in a fast-paced environment; ability to interpret data and make quick decisions.
  • Professional demeanor when interacting with all levels of personnel within the organization and with customers.
Physical requirements

Physical requirements must be met for the Sales Engineer job, including regularly being required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift and /or move up to 20 pounds.
