Emergency Medical Technician (Basic & Advanced)

The Emergency Medical Technician field provider is responsible for directing patient care while operating in non-emergency and/or emergency modalities as a rescue unit in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and directives.

The EMT-B leads, directs, and participates in the delivery of basic life support and participates in the delivery of advanced life support in a pre‑hospital or facility situation. When operating as attendant‑in‑charge, the EMT provides direction to other crew members on patient care and medical issues. The EMT delivers emergency medical care to patients as indicated by medical control or patient care protocols.

• Lead, direct, and participate in the delivery of basic life support in a pre‑hospital or facility situation.
• Give direction to other crew members when operating as attendant‑in‑charge on patient care and medical issues.
• Examine patients and report findings to receiving medical staff or physicians.
• Deliver emergency medical care to patients as indicated by medical control or patient care protocols.
• Operate the ambulance in accordance with safety rules and regulations; company policies; federal, state and local laws, regulations and statutes.
• Complete and record all required reports or runs made by the crews.
• Ensure the assigned vehicle is completely stocked and in good running order at the beginning of each shift, after every response and at the end of each shift.
• Clean the patient care compartment and vehicle in accordance with company adopted infection control and maintenance guidelines.
• Fuel the unit at the end of every shift to maintain emergency readiness of the unit.
• Lift, carry, and balance a minimum of 125 pounds equally distributed and 250 pounds with assistance, to a height of 33 inches and a distance of 10 feet.
• Maintain the office, lounge, bunk room, and vehicle parking area in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
• Attend training sessions and orientations as required to maintain valid Virginia EMT certification and requirements of the company.
• Maintain all required certifications as an active EMS provider and supply the Human Resources Department with valid copies of all certifications and driver’s license prior to their expiration date.
• Perform other related duties as required by management.

• Current Virginia EMT certification.
• Current CPR, Healthcare Provider issue.
• Valid driver’s license with no negative points.
• Pass a criminal background check.
• FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700 & 800c.
• HAZMAT.
• TIMS.
