Safety Manager – Job OverviewThe Safety Manager administers project safety programs to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Responsibilities may cover one project or multiple small projects and report to a Senior Safety Manager or Regional Safety Director. The role requires significant technical expertise in safety management and strong leadership skills.
What You’ll Do- Lead daily audits of all work areas and provide safety expertise in response to identified deficiencies.
- Prepare professional reports, conduct safety briefings, and act as the company spokesperson for site safety issues.
- Resolve site safety issues and provide emergency response as needed.
- Identify gaps and implement safety program elements to comply with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Direct comprehensive investigations of injury and loss incidents, identify causal factors, and implement preventive measures.
- Conduct safety training, testing, and record‑keeping for all employees and subcontractors.
- Act as an advisor to management and customer agencies to ensure safety requirements are fulfilled.
- Manage the assigned project’s safety program budget and control safety equipment and supplies.
- Develop and review the site safety plan and contribute to project start‑up meetings.
- Review the three‑week look‑ahead and ensure critical safety milestones are met.
- Implement crisis management plans and monitor LOTO and energization procedures.
- Prepare training documents, permits, and toolbox meetings; coordinate injury case management.
- Support root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures.
- Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety audit software.
- Strong organizational, record‑keeping, and follow‑up skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to changing requirements.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Professionalism and teamwork in interactions with all levels of employees, vendors, and clients.
- Preferred bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Occupational Safety & Health, or related field.
- Professional safety certification (e.g., Graduate Safety Practitioner, Construction Health & Safety Tech) preferred.
- Preferred 6 years of applicable safety construction experience.
- Combination of training, education, and relevant work experience acceptable.
- Up to 100% travel.
- Work environment includes sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, and bending in indoor office and outdoor construction sites.
- Noise level varies by location.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
