Overview
Life Guard/Pool Monitor —
American Family Fitness
Objective:
To keep the children from Kid's Zone safe during their pool play activity, while developing relationships with them through interactive pool games and instruction. In addition, the secondary goal is to keep all members who are using the pool during this time safe by enforcing the club pool policies.
Aquatic Coordinator/Swim Coordinator
Responsibilities- Arrive 5 to 10 minutes prior to class start time.
- Wear appropriate attire.
- Set up equipment needed for pool play, including the rescue tube for reaching assist.
- Check in with Kid's Zone, let them know you are here for pool play.
- Pick up any children ready for the pool; get any special instructions regarding needs of kids (life jackets, etc.), the list of children participating, and a walkie-talkie.
Note:
if there are not children for pool play and the instructor is dry, they are to remain in Kid's Zone to help out and be available should any children arrive for the pool. If the instructor is wet, they are to return to the pool with the walkie-talkie so Kid's Zone can contact them when someone does arrive. At the pool, the instructor will clean the pool tiles, empty skimmers, and organize equipment bins. - Have all children shower prior to entering pool.
- Review the Rules of the Pool with the children.
- Show children where they can jump and swim.
- Make yourself visible, so all members know you are in charge and that they can approach you for any questions they may have. However, the children are your first priority; your attention should never be diverted from them.
- Interact with the children. Have them involved in some kind of pool activity, game diving for rings, relays, etc. Make it FUN. This is to be done from the deck, where you can have an unobstructed view of the entire pool.
- Enforce the rules of the pool, be polite and explain the reason for the rule is their safety. Showering before entering the pool, No diving, No running, and No unsupervised children should be stressed.
- Children are not allowed in the hot tub during the pool play activity unless their parent is present.
- 5 minutes prior to the end of pool play have all children exit the water and put away their toys and life jackets.
- Have the children shower off and return them to the Kid's Zone.
- Return to the pool and put away all equipment and make sure equipment closets, bins, and music cabinets are locked.
- Complete log sheets and timesheets.
- Check the skimmers, dispose of newspapers/trash, and straighten chairs.
- Make sure the pool is presentable and inviting for our members prior to leaving.
- In the event the instructor is not present for a scheduled class, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken as stated in the aquatic manual.
- It is the scheduled instructor's responsibility to find his/her own substitutes and notify the Swim coordinator with his/her replacement should they be unavailable to teach as scheduled.
