DNV Energy Systems North America is seeking a growth-minded, entrepreneurial Principal Consultant (Director) of Data Center Consulting to join our team. This leadership position empowers you to support customers engaged in planning, developing, and powering data centers.

The Role

As Director of Data Center Consulting, you will:

• Grow a cross‑disciplinary new business in a matrixed organization.

• Lead DNV teams to activate a go‑to‑market plan delivering planning, evaluation, and powering services for data centers.

• Operate from a hybrid schedule across multiple U.S. offices and client sites, with 10–25% travel.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop technical and consulting solutions for data center advisory services.
  • Drive business development with new and existing customers, building a robust sales pipeline.
  • Lead solution development and technical consulting projects for data centers and co‑located generation facilities.
  • Provide technical leadership to staff in a collaborative, cross‑disciplinary environment.
  • Refine service offerings, leveraging DNV’s brand as a trusted engineering and advisory firm.
  • Develop and execute a 1‑ and 3‑year business plan based on market opportunities.
  • Act as liaison and consultant between internal service lines.
  • Prepare proposals, including feasibility studies, for new business opportunities.
  • Analyze alternative opportunities for new markets and technologies.
  • Evaluate strategic alliances and manage subcontractor relationships.
  • Serve as Project Manager or Sponsor on keystone projects.
  • Lead and champion go‑to‑market strategies in a marketing and thought‑leadership plan.
  • Manage relationships with data center customers alongside Key Accounts and other teams.

For California, Washington, New York, Washington, D.C., Illinois, and Maryland:

DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. The starting pay range for these states is $200,000 – $250,000, influenced by skill set, experience, and location.

About

You - What Is Required
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 10+ years of experience in energy infrastructure or related field.
  • Proven ability to engage with customers and scale new services.
  • At least 3 years’ experience with data center development in North America, including FERC rules and backup reliability power systems.
  • Deep understanding of the data center development lifecycle and power access challenges.
  • Strategic advisory experience in go/no‑go decisions, capex strategy, and market entry.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong collaboration skills in a highly matrixed, cross‑functional environment.
  • 10–25% travel required for stakeholder meetings.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication, translating technical findings into business terms.
  • Pre‑employment drug and background screening conducted.
What Is Preferred
  • Deep experience in planning, developing, financing, and powering data centers, working with developers, owners, and utilities.
