Job Description & How to Apply Below

Join Tufts Hillel as Senior Jewish Educator to help enrich the lives of students and shape the future of Jewish life on campus. With your infectious passion for engaging others on their Jewish journey, you will focus on connecting students with opportunities for development of their Jewish sense of self and identity. You will be a relationship builder, connecting with students where they are.

In this role, you will embrace Hillel’s pluralistic approach and serve as a Judaic role model and resource for students.

In this important role you will design and implement new, exciting gateways for students to experience Jewish life through ritual, Shabbat and holidays. You will also proactively develop an innovative Jewish learning methodology for the Jewish community. Working collaboratively with staff and student leaders, you will infuse Hillel’s programs and initiatives with meaningful Jewish content and provide frameworks for the continued growth of our students.

What

You’ll Do
  • Create and curate a high-level of experience for all religious and Jewish educational programs and initiatives. Use design thinking to assess current offerings and innovate new ideas based on student input.
  • Coordinate, implement, be present for and evaluate all aspects of Shabbat and Jewish festival programing and observances on campus. Be creative in imagining what Shabbat and Jewish festivals can look like for students from all walks of life and religious persuasion. Recruit students to partner in planning and delivery. Ritual responsibilities include but are not limited to organizing and participating in High Holiday services and Passover seders, as well as creating and leading exciting programing around Hanukah, Tu Bishvat, Purim, Yom ha-Atzma’ut and Yom ha-Sho’ah.

Act as a Jewish resource for student leaders and for Hillel staff.
  • Identify, recruit and supervise a talented cohort of student leaders to act as Shabbat Fellows.
  • Develop students’ Jewish literacy and empowerment through regularly scheduled Jewish learning opportunities that span diverse backgrounds, interests and multiple Jewish perspectives. Your teaching will complement the offerings from rabbis on staff and range from traditional Jewish texts to contemporary Jewish wisdom, culture and unconventional Jewish sources.
  • Be an accessible and approachable figure on campus, engaging students who have not otherwise connected to Hillel (70% of your focus and time), while also developing relationships with existing student leaders (30% of your focus and time)
What You’ve Accomplished
  • 3-5 years of work experience
  • BA required. Masters (Judaic studies, community organizing, social work or related field) preferred.
  • Demonstrable success in community building and outreach, and experience in program design, vision and implementation.
  • Experience managing projects independently.
  • Musical skills and worship ru’ach (spirit) is a plus.
What You’ll Bring to the Job
  • A good knowledge base of Jewish content. This ranges from traditional Jewish texts to contemporary Jewish wisdom, culture and unconventional Jewish sources. You can frame and illuminate contemporary experience through Torah.
  • Genuine excitement and infectious passion for celebrating Jewish rituals and festivals.
  • Commitment to Jewish pluralism. You believe that there are multiple, equally valid, paths within Judaism and you are excited about helping individuals discover and journey on the path suitable to them.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset. You love discovering new opportunities to impact religious life and learning and you are not afraid to take calculated risks to further your mission. You have a track record of innovation.
  • Strategic planning skills. You think strategically about how to reach, and impact students not involved in the traditional networks, and can utilize methodologies of community organizing to manage and strategize for success.
  • Solution-driven orientation. You see problems not as impediments but as challenges to overcome or learn from.
  • Proactivity. You see what needs to be done, without others having to point it out - and you get it done.
  • Organization and efficiency. You keep track of, and responsibility for, the many…
