Under general supervision, performs expanded and advanced level medical assistant duties including but not limited to identifying and resolving concerns regarding patient satisfaction, patient flow, and compliance with procedures and guidelines. Typically provides direct clinical support to one or more clinicians. Demonstrating a high level of competence provides back‑up coverage for support staff. Works to improve clinical efficiencies of the operation by determining urgency and priority of walk‑ins, add‑on patients and patient consults.
Provides direct clinical and clerical support to clinicians. In some cases may support more than one department.
- High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g., GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit.
- Medical Assistant Certification required; associate degree in medical assisting or graduation from a medical assistant certification program preferred.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
- Three years in a clinical setting with at least one year as a Medical Assistant; a bachelor’s or associate degree may be substituted for one year of experience.
- Computer experience required with ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs.
- Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on prior technology experience required.
- Professional communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, and organizational skills.
- Quick thinker able to relate to all levels of staff and patients.
- Ability to prioritize work throughout a busy environment.
The hourly range for this role is $21.78 to $31.11 per hour, based on full‑time employment.
