Position OverviewThis plant-based role is responsible for supervising and executing all aspects of the Maintenance department, overseeing a team of Maintenance Mechanics and Maintenance Support personnel. Successful candidates will lead, manage, execute, train, and mentor maintenance personnel, be capable of leading and working in a team environment, possess good written and verbal communication skills, problem‑solving ability, conflict resolution skills, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to adapt to changing situations.
This role reports to the Maintenance Manager.
- Schedule, assign, and direct work, and appraise performance.
- Review production and operating reports to address operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems promptly.
- Set overall direction, coordinate, and evaluate maintenance employees.
- Supervise non‑supervisory (lead/technician) employees and handle multiple projects and assignments.
- Train, develop, and evaluate employees for future needs.
- Use software/technology (MS Office, S&P, etc.) and work well with people at all levels.
- Ensure the utmost quality of all products produced and packaged.
- Manage plant maintenance employees and activities.
- Motivate and ensure the safety of employees under your supervision.
- Coach and develop a strong maintenance technician team.
- Meet volume goals, reduce claims, maximize yields, and reduce cost.
- Identify and resolve recurring equipment problems.
- Set up preventive maintenance activities.
- Prepare operational paperwork.
- Maintain good working relationships with the USDA.
- Good communication skills, verbal and written.
- Strong mechanical skills.
- Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with pumps, valves, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Understanding of lockout/tagout.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Knowledge of process and packaging equipment.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- 3+ years of verifiable experience supervising food manufacturing equipment maintenance.
- Ammonia refrigeration experience/certification highly desired.
- Experience working in a USDA environment is a plus.
- Any certifications or equivalent technical training are a plus.
- Ability to perform in a fast‑paced environment.
- Computer literate and able to use associated software programs.
- Ability to perform duties both outside and inside in varying conditions, including extreme heat, extreme cold and wet, and/or humid, etc.
- Works in a plant and in a general office environment.
- Required to wear suitable personal protective equipment.
- May be exposed to the loud noise of plant machinery.
- May be exposed to extreme temperatures, wet, humid conditions, and inclement weather.
- May be exposed to oils and airborne particles.
- May be required to work near moving mechanical parts.
