Position Overview

This plant-based role is responsible for supervising and executing all aspects of the Maintenance department, overseeing a team of Maintenance Mechanics and Maintenance Support personnel. Successful candidates will lead, manage, execute, train, and mentor maintenance personnel, be capable of leading and working in a team environment, possess good written and verbal communication skills, problem‑solving ability, conflict resolution skills, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to adapt to changing situations.

This role reports to the Maintenance Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Scheduling, assigning and directing work; appraising performance.
  • Review production and operating reports to address operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems promptly.
  • Set direction, coordinate, and evaluate maintenance employees; supervise non‑supervisory staff.
  • Handle multiple projects; train, develop, and evaluate employees.
  • Maintain good general knowledge of software/technology (MS Office, S&P, etc.) and work well with people at all levels.
  • Ensure product quality for all products produced and packaged.
  • Manage plant maintenance employees and activities.
  • Motivate and ensure safety of employees.
  • Coach and develop a strong team of maintenance technicians.
  • Meet volume goals, reduce claims, maximize yields, and reduce cost.
  • Identify and resolve recurring equipment problems.
  • Set up Preventive Maintenance activities.
Competencies and Skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong mechanical skills.
  • Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with pumps, valves, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout.
  • Preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Knowledge of Process and Packaging Equipment.
Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of verifiable experience supervising food manufacturing equipment maintenance. Ammonia refrigeration experience/certification highly desired. Experience working in a USDA environment is a plus. Certifications or equivalent technical training are a plus. Ability to perform in a fast‑paced environment. Computer‑literacy and proficiency with associated software programs.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to perform duties both outside and inside in varying conditions, including extreme heat, extreme cold, wet, and/or humid conditions.
Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment
  • Works in a plant and a general office environment.
  • Requires suitable personal protective equipment.
  • May be exposed to loud noise of plant machinery.
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures, wet, humid conditions, and inclement weather.
  • May be exposed to oils and airborne particles.
  • May be required to work near moving mechanical parts.
