Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise. Technicians assist the pharmacy team to ensure that operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and we provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations. Technicians work as part of the pharmacy team through SOPs, best practices, and effective communication, contributing to a safe and inclusive culture.

Upon hire, Technicians are required to complete a rigorous training program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager until all requirements are completed.

Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered for employment in accordance with all federal, state and local laws.

Responsibilities
  • Support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within the store.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off).
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: assisting at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offering immunizations and other services; and solving or escalating patient problems.
  • Complete basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by the leadership team, such as shelving medication deliveries and performing cycle counts and returns-to-stocks.
  • Contribute to a high-performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and actively seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge to better assist patients.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; travel to stores in the market as needed by the business.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with CVS policies to ensure patient safety, controlled substance dispensing and recordkeeping, and patient privacy and security.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, and offsite clinics) where allowed by law and supported by training and certification.

Where permissible, Immunization support responsibilities include:

  • Obtaining additional licensure/training to become a Technician Immunizer to prepare and administer vaccines.
  • Educating patients about vaccines and referring vaccination questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty.
  • Monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting per public health requirements.
  • Reviewing and collecting patient information; tracking and documenting for each applicable patient.
  • Monitoring and managing vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing practice, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
  • If the state board does not mandate a minimum age, must be at least 16 years old.
  • If the state board does not mandate a minimum educational requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a high school equivalency program.
  • State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
