Additional Position Details: FTE: 0.7 | Part Time | 28 hours per week | Primarily Mon - Fri / 8AM - 5PM
Starting Wage: $39.91-$54.89 per hour, depending on experience
Position Summary: The RN Diabetes Care and Education Specialist provides outpatient diabetes counseling in group or individual appointments in cooperation with the physician and dietitian. Able to evaluate, initiate, and manage insulin pump, CGMS systems, and all diabetes tools. High level of critical thinking, evaluation and interpretation of data, and able to suggest changes within the same visit. Coordinates the diabetes education survival skills needs for discharge from the hospital in patients with a primary or secondary diagnosis of diabetes who are a physician or staff nurse.
Mentors and assists non-certified educator RN’s. Acts as a for diabetes education and information for the medical community. Plans and participates in community education classes, diabetes related health fairs, and staff in-service programs.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Experience:
- 2 years of diabetes education in an outpatient setting is required
- Experience in the Sweet Success Program for GDM is preferred
Licensure/
Certifications:
- RN:
Registered Nurse licensed by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) required upon start - BLS:
Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider certified through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon start - CDCES:
Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (formerly CDE) is required - CPT:
Certified Pump Trainer is preferred - Certified pump trainer for 3 pump companies is preferred
- AADE:
American Association of Diabetes Educators membership is preferred
