Overview
Southern Oregon ESD is seeking a school nurse to join our team of professionals in supporting students in Southern Oregon. School Nurses help school districts meet the needs of students with chronic and acute health conditions and maintain compliance with Oregon rules and statutes, working under the requirements of both the Oregon Board of Education and the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
School Nurses provide staff training, training in delegable tasks, development of individual health plans and emergency action plans, participate in IEP and Section 504 plan meetings for students with special health needs, and provide medication review, vision screening, and health case management. They collaborate with school staff to support students of all ages in the management of health needs so they may participate in the school routine to the greatest extent possible.
The position follows the local districts’ 190-day calendar and serves students in preschool through high school and potentially through age 21. SOESD offers professional development opportunities to School Nurses to further their expertise in supporting students’ health care needs.

Registered Nurse – To provide evaluations, nursing care plans, direct treatment, and supervision of delegated nursing tasks to students with significant health needs.
Essential Functions- Evaluate nursing care needs and participate in eligibility meetings to establish educational disability.
- Develop nursing treatment plans and health care IEP goals.
- Supervise medication delivery and records as prescribed by physician and program procedures.
- Provide direct nursing treatment as specified on IEP and train/supervise educational staff in delegated nursing tasks.
- Provide staff development in services regarding health care concerns.
- Consult and collaborate with educational staff, related service providers, and medical providers regarding student care.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services and submit accountability records in a timely manner.
- Communicate clearly and appropriately and make independent decisions within established policies and procedures.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with teachers, assistants, parents, building staff, and other providers.
- Participate in professional growth activities.
- Comply with local district and ESD rules and policies.
- Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation (see reverse).
- Perform job-related tasks as designated by supervisor.
- Valid Registered Nurse license issued by Oregon State Nursing Board
- Successful completion of a two-year Registered Nursing program at an accredited university/college
- Knowledge and experience with mentally and multiply disabled children and applicable health care treatment procedures

Length of Position0.50 FTE / 190 days (academic year)
SalaryPer the bargaining agreement: $28,482.07 - $49,432.67 annually (includes an annual stipend of $3,250. rate will increase based on outcome of bargaining.
