Overview

This position is open until filled with a first review date scheduled for Friday, September 26th. We’re looking for dedicated Swim Instructors and Lifeguards to join our aquatics team. This position is part-time, with shifts primarily scheduled Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. In this role, you’ll teach swim lessons to participants of all ages and skill levels, while also ensuring a safe and welcoming environment during open swim, lap swim, rentals, and special events.

Written and physical swim assessments are required for candidates selected to move forward. The assessments help ensure team members are confident, capable, and prepared to respond in high-pressure situations.

Assessment components include:

• A written swim assessment to evaluate knowledge of safety protocols and emergency response.
• A physical swim assessment consisting of:
  • 150-yard swim
  • 2-minute tread (no hands)
  • 50 additional yards
  • A 10-pound brick retrieval from 20 yards away in under 1 minute and 40 seconds

These positions are scheduled Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Applicants with limited availability may not be considered.

• Graduation from High School or GED equivalent; or are currently enrolled in High School or equivalent and on track for graduation.
• Must be 15 years or older at time of hire.

Essential Functions of the Position:

• Conducts swim lesson classes for various ages and skill levels.
• Evaluates swim participants at the end of each season.
• Lifeguards during open swims, lap swims, aquatic rentals, and special events.
• Enforces safety regulations in a professional, friendly manner.
• Follows emergency action plan in the event of an emergency.
• Provides emergency care/treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
• Performs hourly pool water chemical tests.
• Assists patrons with putting on life jackets.
• Attends and participates in all staff trainings and meetings.
• Assists in the clean-up of the entire pool facility and locker rooms.
• Cautions and educates swimmers against dangerous situations.
• Is proficient with the emergency procedures and department policies at the aquatic center.
• Relates to the public in a positive manner.
• Adheres to safety practices and standards when performing all duties.
