Ensuring the safety of patients under anesthesia

Anesthesia assistants play an important role in the healthcare team, helping the operating room run efficiently, and contributing to a positive outcome of surgical procedures.

Using expert knowledge, clinical inquiry, and assessment skills to guide complex clinical decisions in time sensitive situations, the anesthesia assistants works under the direction of licensed anesthesiologists (specialist physicians) to help ensure patient safety before, during, and after procedures requiring anesthesia.

Accredited post-graduate anesthesia assistant program

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate anesthesia care plans
  • Ensure accurate and complete records of care provided
  • Assist in the preparation of the anesthesia workspace, including equipment setup
  • Administer and monitor medical interventions and equipment
  • Monitor the patient’s vital signs
  • Administer life-saving measures as part of emergency response
  • Provide post-operative care and support in the recovery process
Make a Difference
  • Provide vital support to the anesthesiologist
  • Enhance efficiency and smoothness of surgical procedures
  • Ensure the comfort and safety of the patient
  • Provide lifesaving measures should an anesthesia-related incident arise
  • Educate patients and their families about anesthesia procedures and post-operative care
  • Communicate and collaborate with the operating room team, including anesthesiologists physicians, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and other healthcare practitioners
  • Facilitate advanced communication and coordination with the surgeon, surgical team, and anesthesiologist
  • Use a patient-focused care model that involves patients, families, and caregivers
