Full Time Term; approximately 32.5 hours per week
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:50 AM – 3:15 PM.
Note:
half of Fridays dismiss at 12 PM during the school year.
Duration:
August 25, 2026 – June 29, 2027

About the Position The Colony Educational Assistant, in consultation with the Colony Principal and the Bow City Colony Teacher, will assist with the design of lesson plans for kindergarten to grade three students. Based on these lesson plans, the EA will create student learning activities and manage the classroom environment to facilitate student success. The broader scope suits a candidate with education-related training and experience, who works collaboratively, demonstrates initiative and independence, and is organized, flexible, and adaptable to daily challenges.
About the School Bow City Colony School is one of seven colony schools in Grasslands. It is located in the County of Newell, approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes outside of Brooks, Alberta. The schools follow their own calendar aligned with community-observed holidays and traditions. Colony schools serve children from the Hutterite community, from kindergarten to Grade 8, focusing on English language development while preserving cultural values.
The community emphasizes hands-on, face-to-face learning with limited use of technology.
Grasslands Public Schools is a public school division serving the City of Brooks and surrounding County of Newell, with about 3,577 students. It operates three elementary schools in Brooks and seven rural locations, plus seven colony school locations.

Job Duties Plan and deliver instruction based on student learning needs and develop activities to foster knowledge and skills
Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help
Support students in instruction, social and behavioral needs
Encourage positive interactions among students and staff
Collaborate with the Colony Teacher, Colony Administrator, and German Teacher to identify students’ learning needs
Provide a stimulating learning environment that supports growth and potential
Communicate student progress and meet with parents as required
Participate in meetings and in-service training
Maintain a clean and organized classroom and materials
Participate with students in school activities such as outdoor sports
