Herald School - Temporary Full‑Time Specialized Teacher
An opportunity exists for a caring, dedicated, and resilient teacher to join the Herald School community as a full‑time temporary teacher in the Division's Specialized Programs for the start of the  school year. The teacher will be responsible for programming for students with specialized medical, cognitive, and/or behavioural needs.

Qualifications and Skills

Programming for students with diverse and complex needs

Understanding of complex communication needs and the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices (e.g., Proloquo2

Go, Nova Chat)

Knowledge of specialized strategies and supports

Ability to implement inclusive practices, differentiated instruction, and life skills programming

Experience implementing a life skills curriculum that focuses on functional literacy, numeracy and adaptive/daily living skills

Leading a team of classroom educational assistants

Proactive planning for challenging behaviour through a positive behaviour support lens

Understanding of the Collaborative Response Model

Professional learning specific to inclusion and specialized programming (e.g., Low Arousal Approach, SIVA, etc.)

The successful candidate must be aligned with the values and vision of Herald School and Medicine Hat Public Division. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in inclusive education and/or proven experience in working with students with diverse and complex needs.

Herald School is a Kindergarten through Grade 6 school, hosts four of the MHPSD Specialized Classrooms and has a population of approximately 155 students. Herald School is dedicated to preparing students for happy and successful lives as ethical citizens and engaged thinkers.
