7D Specialized Van Driver; Substitute

7D SPECIALIZED VAN DRIVER (SUBSTITUTE)

Medway Public Schools is seeking a substitute / per-diem 7D Specialized Van Driver.

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)

• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Must have 3 years or more of driving experience in the US
• Valid driver's license
• Valid 7D license (or able to obtain)
• Good driving record
• Pass a CORI and SORI background check
• Pass a fingerprint check
• Provide an unattested driver history

• Maintain confidentiality at all times
• Actively engage students during transport
• Communicate effectively and clearly in English with students, parents, teachers, and Medway staff
• Work as a team player
• Be flexible with schedule, route, etc.
• Punctuality

Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.

Transportation Coordinator

Transport students (up to age 22) to and from various schools in a safe and timely manner, completing the required paperwork, and following protocols set in place by the Transportation Department. Must enjoy working with children, and always possess the ability to show patience and empathy. Job hours vary up to 20‑25 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, and are based on a split shift (morning and afternoon) with various early release days following school calendars.

Routes could go as far as Metro West and Boston Area depending upon where the student goes to school.

• Provide safe and timely transport of Medway students to and from the school/programs they attend.
• Perform daily safety checks of vehicle and equipment, reporting any problems to the Transportation Coordinator.
• Maintain cleanliness of interior and exterior of vehicle.
• Ensure that the vehicle has adequate gasoline prior to beginning of the route(s).
• Operate vehicle(s) in accordance with all Federal and State traffic laws.
• Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, student and mileage logs.
• Provide First Aid only as trained and required by the situation.
• Secure students and/or equipment with any restraints, seat belts, car seats, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
• Assist students to safely enter and exit the vehicle as needed.
• Deal effectively with behavior issues during the route. Driver/Monitor must report any problems or concerns to the Transportation Coordinator and file an incident report.
• Release students only to individuals identified as approved for release and contact the transportation office when in question.
• Follow emergency protocols printed in the Van Driver/Monitor Manual.
• Additional job duties as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator.

Per Diem, On an as needed basis.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Transportation Coordinator.
