Description

Under the direction of the Property Supervisor, this position performs various records keeping and physical custody duties associated with the monitoring and safeguarding of inmate property for the Detention facility.

Examples Of Essential Functions
  • Maintains and safeguards the property and funds of inmates and ensures the item(s) are properly entered on receipt, signs for acceptance, enters storage location on receipt and tags the item(s) with the appropriate identification numbers.
  • Maintains a property folder with all transactions until an inmate leaves the Detention Facility and completes the record by releasing the property and funds to the inmate.
  • Determines property storage and packing of property based on the stability and sensitivity of the item(s), i.e. spoilage, money, etc.
  • Monitors the Detention information line.
  • Manages visitation by setting visitation hours, signing in and verifying visitors, securing the personal items of visitors and directing visitors to the visitation area.
  • Coordinates, verifies and logs bond information and processes checks for court.
  • Restocks the laundry supplies and issues laundry to new inmates.
  • Reconciles inmate accounts and cash reports.
  • Does not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.
  • Is committed to a high standard of safety laws and all of the Sheriff’s Office policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
  • Maintains regular and acceptable attendance at such level as determined at the Sheriff’s Office discretion.
  • Is available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as the Sheriff’s Office determines is necessary or desirable to meet its needs.
  • Is available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as the Sheriff’s Office determines are necessary or desirable to meet its needs.
  • Performs duties onsite, except those job duties that are customarily or by nature performed offsite.
  • Follows and supports the mission, values, organizational philosophies, operational principals, code of conduct, and policies and procedures of the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Interacts effectively with others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the Sheriff’s Office procedures.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution.
  • Ability to operate a computer terminal to handle inmate data relating to personal property.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, other agencies and the general public.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

High School graduate or GED equivalent.

Experience:

One (1) year experience in inventory control/related field or performing clerical functions.

Certifications / Licenses: N/A

Preferred Qualifications
  • Must be able to obtain Notary Public certification.
  • Must be able to type 25 wpm corrected.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Must possess CPR and First Aid certification within the initial status period.
Physical Demands

Occasionally:
Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.

Frequently:
Activity exists between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.

Constantly:
Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.

  • Spends 20% of the time sitting, 40% standing and 40% walking while on the job.
  • Frequently uses eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery and writing utensils.
  • Frequently involved in oral and auditory interaction, enabling interpersonal communication.
  • Frequently stoops, kneels, crouches and balances while handling property.
  • Frequently uses visual capacity including depth perception, enabling completion of required office duties.
  • Occasionally lifts or carries up to 100 lbs. when moving property.
