Position: EO/IR EngineerNorthrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for an EO/IR Engineer in Melbourne, FL. The selected engineer will work as part of an interdisciplinary team on a key effort to develop novel and innovative solutions to advanced technical problems. Responsibilities include contributing to the overall development of electro‑optical infrared (EO/IR) subsystems, creating functional architectures, analyzing performance, developing and managing requirements and interfaces, and verifying/validating all allocated requirements.
You will design, develop, build, and test EW systems in conjunction with key suppliers.
- Support development and integration of EO/IR subsystems and components to meet platform mission objectives.
- Develop, analyze, mature, and implement requirements translating customer needs into hardware and software specifications.
- Perform MBSE and capture requirements, interfaces, behaviors, structures, and para metrics.
- Conduct functional and performance analyses.
- Perform detailed trade studies.
- Collaborate with engineers and program stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain supplier documentation, performance‑based specifications, and statements of work.
- Review documents from the supplier’s development effort and support technical interchange meetings and design reviews.
- Perform informal and formal testing of subsystem requirements in lab, troubleshooting hardware in the lab.
- Perform aircraft ground and flight test on subsystems to validate and verify subsystem requirements and sell‑off.
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of related professional/military experience in engineering, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of experience, or a Ph.D. in STEM with 0 years of experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government Secret clearance and any required program access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
- Knowledge of EO/IR phenomenology.
- Experience designing, developing, integrating, and/or testing EO/IR equipment for airborne platforms.
- Experience in EO/IR system and atmospheric modeling.
- Knowledge of digital image processing algorithms.
- Experience decomposing, deriving, allocating, and tracing requirements from system to component level.
- Experience in model‑based systems engineering using Cameo or similar SysML tools.
- Experience in performance analysis using MATLAB, Excel, or similar tools.
- Experience engaging directly with internal and external technical and programmatic representatives.
- Familiarity with Atlassian collaboration tool set (Jira and Confluence).
- Experience in supplier/subcontract management.
- Experience developing supplier documentation, performance‑based specifications, and statements of work.
- Experience building supplier evaluation criteria and conducting technical evaluations, documenting results, and selection.
- Ability to review documents from the supplier’s development effort and support supplier technical interchange meetings and design reviews.
