Position SummaryThe Clinical Nurse Educator works in collaboration with Clinical Education Specialists (CES) and Nursing Leaders to develop, coordinate and implement education and staff development programs to promote safe and effective patient‑centered care. The Clinical Nurse Educator serves as a leader and role model in advancing clinical practice to achieve better patient outcomes through evidence‑based and standardized nursing practice.
Primary Accountabilities- Provides direct assistance and supervision for staff education and training to ensure safety and patient‑centered care.
- Creates learning environments that achieve desired cognitive, affective, and psychomotor outcomes.
- Partners with CES to utilize current research and evidence‑based practice to design, facilitate, and evaluate professional development to better prepare learners for success in their current or advanced nursing practice.
- Uses principles of adult learning to employ a variety of teaching strategies that engage different types of learners on multiple levels.
- Grounds teaching strategies in educational theory, evidence‑based teaching practices and research‑based nursing practice.
- Facilitates and evaluates processes for unit‑based orientation, cross‑training, and maintenance of staff competency.
- Models critical and reflective thinking and serves as a role model for professional nursing.
- Promotes and provides educational opportunities that benefit nurses at all stages of their professional career.
- Partners with CES to perform learning needs assessments to facilitate practice and process changes in area of expertise.
- Serves as an educational consultant and resource for committees and projects related to development of staff, programs, policies, and procedures.
- Minimum 1 year of prior clinical experience.
- RN licensure in Florida or endorsement.
- Education:
BSN or conditional time & waiver for candidates who complete their BSN within 3 years of start date. - Certification:
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider completion card prior to start date and maintained. - American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA ACLS) Healthcare Provider completion card prior to start date and maintained.
- Board certification in a clinical specialty within 1 year of start date:
Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN), Cardiac Medicine Certification (CMC), or other related certification(s). - Skills/knowledge/abilities: high initiative with ability to self‑direct; ability to prioritize workload and manage time; critical thinking and problem‑solving skills; ability to assess and interpret data; excellent verbal and written communication skills to educate associates of various ages and levels of understanding; excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Education:
Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN), Education, or Business/Healthcare Administration (MBA/MHA). - Work experience:
3 years of prior clinical experience.
- Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
- May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
- May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.
- May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment up to 90% of assigned shift.
- May be exposed to indoor and outdoor environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or noise.
- May be exposed to biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
- Requires communication, visual acuity and hand‑eye coordination.
- Workspace may vary from open to confined; may require travel to facilities beyond county use of personal vehicle.
