Brevard Health Alliance, Brevard County's only Federally Qualified Health Center, is actively recruiting a Medical Assistant to join our team in the heart of the Space Coast. Position SummaryThe Medical Assistant (MA) provides high‑quality care in an outpatient setting. The MA promotes a safe environment for all patients, collects and documents data using electronic health records, follows policies and protocols, and performs routine administrative and clinical duties to assist the medical home team.
General Education Requirements- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or associate degree in Medical Assisting, or one‑year verifiable related experience as a Medical Assistant
- National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) Accredited Medical Assistant certification or one‑year verifiable related experience (at least 2 years may satisfy the requirement)
- Current BLS/CPR Certification from the American Heart Association
- Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA compliance, and basic clinical exam procedures
- Proficiency with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Complete patient charts and enter all data into EMR; verify accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare exam rooms, maintain cleanliness between visits, and prepare patients for examination.
- Record vital signs, medical histories, and perform routine screening tests.
- Assist the provider with exams and minor procedures; administer medications or vaccinations as directed.
- Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform first‑aid procedures.
- Perform routine laboratory tests, EKG, and document results.
- Authorize medication refills, provide prescription information to pharmacies per BHA protocol.
- Clean and sterilize equipment, dispose of hazardous waste per OSHA standards.
- Discharge patients, schedule follow‑up appointments, and ensure compliance with HIPAA and departmental protocols.
- Communicate openly with managers and nursing staff regarding clinic issues.
- Collaborate with the integrated clinical team to meet patient needs efficiently.
- Participate in departmental quality‑improvement efforts.
- Assist with indigent medication programs and reconcile pharmacy inventory.
- Ensure pediatric patients are immunized and documented accurately.
- Maintain lab and medical equipment quality assurance procedures.
- Serve as a resource or preceptor for other MAs and provide oversight for day‑to‑day clinical operations (as appropriate).
- Perform daily quality controls: AED check, HgbA1C and glucometer QC, medication refrigerator temperature, utility room checks, stock supplies, and verify expiration of supplies.
- Document observations and report changes in patient condition to the team.
- Intervene in disruptive or challenging patient behaviors with therapeutic interventions.
- Communicate effectively, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Represent Brevard Health Alliance's mission, focusing on productivity, quality, patient satisfaction, and employee retention.
