Overview

Health First Medical Group Nuclear Med Tech - Gateway Radiology

Responsibilities
  • Quality/No Harm:
    Maintain a safe environment for patients/customers, team members and yourself. Verify two forms of patient identification on "Every Patient / Every Time". Perform "time out" prior to starting any invasive procedure. Adhere to ALARA principles of radiation safety. Know location of emergency equipment and how to use such equipment. Be familiar with the Health First Emergency Kardex and responsibilities in relation to emergent codes.

    Hurricane preparedness and duties as a Health First associate.
  • Infection Control and Documentation:
    Follow Infection Control policies and procedures; practice aseptic/sterile techniques. Document and communicate pertinent information. Report malfunctioning equipment and complete required documentation/forms (written/electronic) such as patient history, pregnancy, IV contrast, procedural consent, MAR, safety portal, medication reconciliation, PACS. Review exam orders from charts or prescriptions and obtain pertinent patient history.
  • Procedure Protocols and Image Quality:
    Perform procedure protocols, produce images consistent with image quality standards and follow Federal, State and Regional healthcare regulations and Joint Commission/ACR standards. Properly position patients and use appropriate technique. Ensure exam rooms and equipment are clean, stocked, disinfected, and ready for the next patient encounter. Follow proper image retrieval and file processes.
  • Quality Improvement and Scheduling:
    Participate in quality initiatives; suggest departmental improvements; attend staff meetings/in-services and read/sign off on minutes.
  • Medications:
    Identify, prepare and/or administer medications within technologist scope of practice as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Radiation Safety and Nuclear Medicine Processing:
    Perform radiation safety tasks within required time limits and in accordance with BRC guidelines. Complete computer processing for Nuclear Medicine diagnostic imaging procedures. Perform therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures. Prepare radiopharmaceuticals from cold kits. Prepare and administer the correct radiopharmaceutical to the correct patient by the correct route in the correct dosage.
  • Customer

    Experience:

    Communicate effectively with patients, LIP, Health First associates and the public; provide pre/post procedure education; respond to patient/family concerns or complaints; maintain patient privacy and dignity. Practice the I CARE PROMISE:
    Introduce myself, clarify what I will be doing, ask if there are any questions, respond with information and concern, and go the extra mile.
  • Stewardship:
    Use supplies/equipment with care, ensure data is entered and charged correctly, manage time effectively, and assist in other areas as needed. Follow Kronos time clock procedures and adapt to workflow changes.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a JRCNMT Nuclear Medicine Program.
  • Possess current license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in the State of Florida.
  • Registered or registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Prior Nuclear Medicine Experience Preferred.
  • Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.
  • Computer-related skills deemed pertinent for optimal technical performance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to report to department within 30 minutes when on call.
Physical and Mental Demands
  • Able to walk, bend, stoop, reach, and lift throughout the shift; move, lift, or position patients as required; push wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds.
  • Dependable and flexible to cover required shifts; able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted several times per day; able to wear lead aprons for extended periods.
  • Able to work effectively in a stressful environment; able to respond to life threatening situations; ability to multi-task; demonstrate critical thinking and decision-making; maintain professional conduct and ethics; strong organizational skills.
