About

The Role

At Orion
180, we’re building modern, tech-forward insurance solutions—and quality is non-negotiable. We’re looking for a Quality Assurance (QA) Manager who is passionate about great software, loves finding (and preventing) bugs, and gets energy from helping teams ship high-quality features on time. This role is perfect for a strong Senior QA Engineer ready for the next step or an existing QA Manager who still enjoys being close to the work.

You’ll lead a small but growing QA team, shape our testing strategy, and partner closely with development and product to ensure our web and API platforms are rock solid.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and grow the QA team
    • Mentoring and supporting QA analysts/engineers in both manual and automated testing.
    • Help with hiring, onboarding, and developing new team members as we grow.
  • Own the testing strategy
    • Define and refine test approaches for web, API, and integration testing.
    • Balance automation and thoughtful manual testing to achieve the best coverage with the least friction.
    • Drive regression, smoke, performance, and exploratory testing practices.
  • Make quality visible
    • Establish and track clear QA metrics and KPIs (defect rates, coverage, escape rate, etc.).
    • Communicate risks, issues, and test results clearly to developers, product, and leadership.
  • Partner with development and product
    • Work closely with development managers, product owners, and scrum masters to align quality goals with sprint and release plans.
    • Ensure stories include clear acceptance criteria and that testing is integrated into the SDLC—not bolted on at the end.
  • Improve how we build software
    • Advocate for best practices in test automation, CI/CD, and shift-left testing.
    • Help teams design testable systems and improve reliability, performance, and user experience.
  • Maintain high standards
    • Ensure team members follow Orion
180’s operational standards, security practices, and compliance requirements.
    • Encourage continuous learning as tools, frameworks, and technologies evolve.
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of hands‑on software testing experience
    • Experience with web applications and/or APIs is important.
  • Some leadership experience, such as:
    • 1–3 years as a QA Lead, Senior QA owning a product area, or informal leadership/mentoring of other testers.
  • Strong understanding of QA concepts and practices, including:
    • Test planning, test case design, regression testing, and defect management.
    • Familiarity with automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, etc.)—you don’t need to be a full‑time automation engineer, but you should be comfortable guiding automation strategy.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, collaborating closely with developers and product.
  • Solid communication skills—you can explain quality risks and trade‑offs in plain language to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, stay organized, and hit deadlines without sacrificing quality.
Education
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is a plus,
  • or equivalent practical experience in software testing and QA leadership.
Bonus Points (Nice to Have)
  • Experience testing systems hosted in MS Azure or other cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with SQL and basic database querying to validate data.
  • Exposure to modern front‑end frameworks (e.g., Vue.js, React, Angular) from a testing perspective.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Background in insurance, fintech, or other regulated industries.
What’s In It For You
  • Dynamic Environment:
On‑site role with a fast‑paced and collaborative team culture. Results‑driven office where your contributions make a real impact.
  • Compensation:
Competitive base pay and performance bonuses.
  • Career Growth:
Mentorship, growth tracks, and professional development.
  • Benefits:
Medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid holidays, PTO and more!

While performing general duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and/or walk around (including the use of stairs).
