- Maintain smooth operation of LAN/WAN/VPNs.
- Plan, design, configure, and install network hardware to support customer requirements.
- Maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, firewalls, switches, WAN accelerators, etc.
- Propose solutions to management to ensure communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.
- Prepare or ensure that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.
- Provide regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long‑range planning for in‑house systems.
- Coordinate third‑party maintenance for network equipment.
- Design network or portions of network that include selection of hardware and software packages.
- Operate with considerable independence and self‑identify/pursue long‑term interests.
- Lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Work after hours and weekends as needed.
- Work for the BATTS program, reporting to the Network Communications Manager and serving as a design authority and consultant for future IT and enterprise network architecture.
- Architect solutions that meet technical requirements, including present and future capacity requirements.
- Perform requirements analysis, technical trade studies, formally manage risks, independently develop interface control documents, recommendations, and participate in the Supplier Management Team overseeing vendor selection, procurement, and vendor oversight.
- Maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware, software interconnection, and interfacing, routers, multi‑level security, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
- Understand existing architectures underlying various layers and components, including emerging 5G systems, computing and cloud architectures (edge data approaches) and artificial intelligence architectures.
- Understand architecture development approaches, including USDOD approaches and DODAF frameworks. Define and use relevant metrics to evaluate and trade architectural constructs and comply with standards and interface, open systems, etc.
- Design and implement new network solutions and improve the efficiency of current networks, including installing, configuring and supporting network equipment such as routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, DNS and DHCP.
- Procure network equipment and manage subcontractors involved with network installation.
- Configure firewalls, routing and switching to maximize network efficiency and security.
- Maximize network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Arrange scheduled upgrades, investigate faults in the network, update firmware releases, and report network status to key stakeholders.
- Manage suppliers who provide hardware and software solutions and independently evaluate the technical trade space.
- Master’s Degree with 10 years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree with 12 years of relevant experience; or an Associate’s Degree with 14 years of relevant experience.
- Must have a Security+ CE certification (or higher).
- Candidates must have a current DOD Secret level security clearance (at a minimum) and the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Top Secret clearance as a condition of continued employment.
