Under the general supervision of the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, performs advanced electrical trade, motor control, technical electrical, instrumentation, electromechanical, and maintenance work for the operation of the water reclamation process. This role requires a high level of expertise in planning and executing various-sized projects, troubleshooting network communications, installation and calibration of electronic instrumentation, and maintaining, repairing, installing, and troubleshooting electrical equipment.

Assignments are made orally or through written orders and may be accompanied by instructions, schematics, diagrams, or blueprints. This position is required to be available for a rotating emergency call-out duty and is required to be available during natural disasters. In the absence of the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs the responsibilities of the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor.

The incumbent is expected to exercise sound judgment and initiative in resolving complex electric, electronic, electro/mechanical, and other maintenance-related problems. This role requires a high level of responsibility and decision-making. Work is reviewed through records, conferences, and observation of results obtained. The incumbent performs other related work as required.

  • Evaluates, diagnoses, troubleshoots, installs, alters, repairs and maintains motors, generators, switch gear, motor controllers, transformers, wiring systems, lighting, electronic components and other related equipment.
  • Identifies issues with the treatment process related to the electrical, signal, control, and communication systems.
  • Prepares preliminary cost estimates for materials, supplies and equipment for proposed construction or renovation.
  • Assists in the procurement and evaluation of professional service as related to water/wastewater treatment facility electrical and SCADA control processes.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records and logs of the operation, repair, maintenance, and calibration of electric, electronic, mechanical, and other related materials.
  • Develops and maintains schematic wiring diagrams for all electrical and electronic systems.
  • Displays a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently.
  • Works with minimal supervision. Demonstrates responsible behavior and attention to detail.
  • Contributes to the planning and formulation of Division operational and capital improvement budget.
  • Responsible for maintaining and following uniform safety practices and procedures regarding the Division’s electrical, electronic, mechanical, and other maintenance related equipment.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Five years of experience directly operating, maintaining, and repairing electrical and electronic equipment associated with water/wastewater treatment facilities as an electrician or 8 years’ experience in commercial/industrial electrical field.
  • Possess a Brevard County Journeyman License or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge, skills, and the ability to repair, service, maintain, and install electrical equipment, generators, transformers, switch gear, automatic transfer switches, motors, motor controllers, and electronics varying voltages of AC and DC from 12 volts to 480 volts nominal for the wastewater industry.
  • Knowledge of automation electrical devices such as PLCs, pressure switches, flow meters, process instruments, motorized valves, level sensors, etc.
  • Knowledge of trade occupational hazards and appropriate preventive safety procedures, particularly concerning electrical systems and equipment work.
  • Extensive knowledge of local and national electrical codes.
  • Knowledge of the use of SCADA systems and interface equipment.
  • Knowledge of Windows-based computer programs, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting complex motor controls and complex process controls.
  • Skilled in the care and usage of standard and specialized electrical tools and testing equipment.
