About Second HarvestSecond Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a member of Feeding America – the largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. Second Harvest Food Bank secures and distributes food and grocery products to more than 800 feeding partners throughout Central Florida. With the help of food and financial donors, volunteers and a caring, committed community, the food bank distributes 300,000 meals every day to a seven-county service area, which includes Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia.
Feeding neighbors facing hunger is only the beginning. By investing in job training programs, advocating for access to nutritious foods, and inspiring our community to get involved, Second Harvest Food Bank is leaning into the root causes of hunger and helping our neighbors thrive.
The Operation Department plays a key role in Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida's day to day functions. The department manages a fleet of 15 vehicles currently, but this could grow in the future, and a team of 14 drivers are responsible for moving food across a seven-county distribution network. Core functions include retail food rescue through the Grocery Alliance program, deliveries to schools through the School Partnership Program, and deliveries to partner agencies throughout the service area.
The department is also a key component of the food bank's disaster response operations. All transportation activities are conducted in compliance with Feeding America and AIB food safety standards, DOT regulations, and organizational safety policies governing a safety-sensitive workforce.
Travel is primarily local within Second Harvest's seven-county service area of Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Volusia and Marion counties.
