Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for band 6 midwives to work in NHS Borders located in the Scottish Borders. The post is rotational within NHS Borders Berwickshire Community Midwifery team, covering localities including Kelso, Duns and Eyemouth. We put women at the centre of our maternity service and aim to provide the best care for women and their families. Our maternity services are on a journey to fulfil Best Start recommendations and offer continuity of care through case loading midwifery teams who care for women at home and in our consultant-led unit.
We deliver our midwifery services alongside the Borders General Hospital, near Melrose, providing antenatal/postnatal care, a labour suite with consultant clinics, and access to early pregnancy services. Community support is provided in the home and GP surgeries across the Borders.
Responsibilities- Provide high quality, person-centred midwifery care in community settings and in the consultant-led unit, working collaboratively to promote evidence-based, women-centred care.
- Work flexibly within a busy team to care for a population with diverse health and social care needs; participate in partnership work with other health and social agencies.
- Be part of continuity of care initiatives and the move towards midwifery-led care, including day shifts and on-call duties as required by clinical need.
- Registered midwife at band 6 level, with the ability to work across community and hospital settings in a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; commitment to flexible, innovative, and compassionate care.
- Ability to work flexibly in a busy team and manage diverse caseloads; passion for continuity of care.
- Permanent part-time post; driving licence and use of a car are essential.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom or eligibility for sponsorship where applicable; pre-employment checks including PVG where required by regulatory changes.
- Awareness of and compliance with the UK right-to-work requirements and guidance; sponsorship may be possible for eligible posts with licenced sponsors and appropriate salary thresholds.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part-time hours will be reduced pro-rata, with a corresponding increase in hourly rate so pay remains unaffected.
