GPI is seeking a Highway Design Engineer to join our growing Transportation team in Melville, NY
. This is an exciting opportunity to work on roadway, highway, and transportation infrastructure projects for NYSDOT, municipalities, and local agencies while collaborating with experienced engineers in a dynamic, employee-owned firm.

Responsibilities

• Prepare roadway and highway design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Develop horizontal and vertical alignments, grading, drainage, and traffic control plans.
• Perform engineering calculations and technical analyses.
• Coordinate with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary design teams.
• Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, and quality control reviews.
• Support the preparation of engineering reports, permit applications, and construction documents.
• Participate in client meetings and agency coordination efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 3+ years of highway, roadway, or transportation design experience.
• EIT certification required; PE license or ability to obtain preferred.
• Experience with NYSDOT standards, specifications, and design procedures preferred.
• Proficiency with Micro Station/Open Roads Designer; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
• Knowledge of roadway geometry, drainage design, traffic control, and utility coordination.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in a team environment.
