Statistician II – Wage and Hour
Join Jackson Lewis P.C. as a Statistician II in the Wage & Hour Data Analytics group. Your role will support a variety of client projects, including single plaintiff, class‑action, collective‑action, and DOL audit analyses based on client time‑keeping and payroll data.
Job SummaryThe Statistician II will work independently with minimal supervision, handle complex attorney/client issues, oversee work of analysts and junior statisticians, and communicate effectively with attorneys and high‑level client contacts. You will develop expert knowledge of subject matter and firm analytic protocols, regularly work with attorneys and the manager to determine project strategies, and provide support on Practice Group initiatives, marketing efforts, and pitches.
EssentialFunctions
- Identify data issues, perform basic analysis, and develop solutions.
- Participate in creation of macros and coding for necessary analyses.
- Provide input on timely, effective solutions to client issues; identify and suggest new approaches to technical challenges.
- Assess client exposure under various litigation scenarios—class action, collective action, etc.
- Oversee and review work of analysts and junior statisticians, including workload management and project delegation.
- Provide clear, concise written and oral communications to attorneys and client contacts, explaining complex topics in an easy‑to‑understand manner.
- Develop methods and strategies to reach the end goal of a project based on various raw client data formats.
- Work with attorneys and analysts for analysis revisions, often on‑the‑fly during mediation proceedings.
- Determine client and project needs and independently design and prepare data and analyses.
- Minimum two years of experience directly working with Wage & Hour topics and data (time‑keeping and payroll data especially), preferably in a legal or HR context.
- Direct experience with California Wage & Hour laws is a large plus.
- Expert working knowledge of Excel, including basic and intermediate formulas (VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, etc.); use of Excel formulas and mathematics to manipulate raw data into dollar‑figure exposure estimates.
- VBA experience a large plus.
- Experience in R, SQL, Python, or other statistical programs a plus (R preferred).
- Proficiency in linear and logistic regression modeling for large scale work forces.
- Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—when interacting with client HR and legal professionals at Fortune 500 companies.
- Ability to write programs/macros to automate repetitive statistical and data tasks.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, managing multiple projects from start to finish with shifting priorities.
- Knowledge of R data wrangling methodologies and coding standards around dplyr, tidyverse, and lubridate.
- Willingness to conform to standardized group practices.
- Master’s‑level (or above) degree in applied statistics, mathematics, econometrics, or a related field, or equivalent experience or training.
For Colorado, NY, and Washington, the expected salary range for this position is between $92,600 and $105,000. This position is also eligible for annual bonuses. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
