Job Overview

Zurich Middle Markets is seeking a Property & Casualty Underwriter or Underwriting Specialist to serve as a customer advocate in Long Island, NY. The role focuses on improving the customer experience by understanding unique risks and offering end-to-end solutions for Middle Market P&C insurance needs.

• Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, partners, and customers across all industries to support business objectives.
• Leverage P&C underwriting acumen across risk assessment, exposure evaluation, and pricing to generate and maintain a profitable book of new and renewal business.
• Collaborate across business units — claims, finance, risk engineering, actuary, and technical underwriting — to gain extensive knowledge in a growing and innovative industry.
• Use technical underwriting, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to grow and develop relationships with preferred distribution partners in an assigned territory.

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 or more years of experience in the insurance or market-facing area.
• High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting-support area.
• Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment.
• Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines.

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market-facing area.
• High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting-support area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 1 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market-facing area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 4 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting-support area.
• Knowledge of line(s) of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Established relationships with property & casualty broker partners.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• CPCU and ARM a plus.

The combined salary range for this position is $73,400.00 – $. For an Underwriter, the range is $73,400.00 – $ with a short‑term incentive bonus of 10%. For an Underwriting Specialist, the range is $92,900.00 – $ with a short‑term incentive bonus of 10%.
