HHM Talent is assisting a client in Memphis, TN with their search for an Accounting Manager.
This is a contract role initially and will transition to W2 with benefits on January 31st.
Our client is a brand-new startup and is in an early growth phase. This is an opportunity to join at the ground floor, help establish core financial operations, and grow alongside the business. The right person will have significant influence over systems, processes, and the long-term direction of the finance function.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, problem-solving, and building structure where little currently exists — with the opportunity to evolve into a senior leadership role (potentially CFO) as the company scales.
Position Overview:
The Accounting Manager will own day-to-day accounting operations and help establish foundational financial processes. This role will start as an individual contributor with no direct reports, working closely with ownership to clean up and structure the company’s accounting environment.
The position is remote-friendly, with a hybrid schedule requiring in-office presence approximately once per week in the Memphis area. An official administrative office is expected to be established within the next 12–18 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and manage the company’s books and general accounting functions
- Maintain and manage the Chart of Accounts
- Perform accounting cleanup and process improvements as the business scales
- Support basic compliance and accounting best practices
- Assist with Quick Books setup, maintenance, and optimization
- Utilize Excel for reconciliations, reporting, and ad hoc analysis
- Partner with ownership to establish accounting workflows and controls
- Support onboarding-related accounting needs and collaborate with HR/consultants as needed
- Work cross-functionally with internal systems such as the CRM
- Prepare the accounting function for future growth and scaling
- Fast-paced startup environment, especially during the setup phase

- Once foundational systems are in place, the pace will stabilize
Qualifications:
- Strong hands-on accounting experience, ideally in startup or small business environments
- Experience with Quick Books required
- Comfortable working independently without direct reports
- Ability to handle ambiguity and build structure from scratch
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive
