SummaryThis position serves as the Supervisory Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Supervisory Supply Technician you will ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics by directing, supervising and managing the primary inventory point that receives, stores and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center.
Qualifications- Time-In-Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade at any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS‑07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑06. An SF‑50 that shows your time‑in‑grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF‑50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one‑year time‑in‑grade.
In that instance you must provide an additional SF‑50 that clearly demonstrates one‑year time‑in‑grade. - Specialized Experience (minimum 1 year at GS‑6 level in the Federal service) covering planning and coordinating work for others; establishing priorities; overseeing receipt and distribution of supplies and materials; maintaining inventory; monitoring expiration dates; delivering supplies timely; training new employees; ensuring proper storage; resolving problems; providing guidance; and recommending improvements.
- Physical Requirements:
Standing and walking during the entire workday; frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (up to 50 lbs); pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (over 100 lbs); with assistance moving heavier items (over 40 lbs). - Work Environment:
Medical center, storage buildings, warehouses; conditions ranging from clean to hot/cold/drafty; potential trips, falls, scrapes, cuts; dusty or infectious pollutants; offsite units may require trips >90 minutes; tours may include evening or overnight shifts.
- Vacancy will close after the first 50 applications or closing date 11/24/2025. The primary purpose of the position is to ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics.
- Direct, supervise, and manage the primary inventory point that receives, stores and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center.
- Plan work for subordinates and set short‑term priorities; prepare schedules for completion of work.
- Advise, counsel and instruct employees on work and administrative matters.
- Find ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production.
- Provide guidance on work involving new or complex situations.
- Oversee management and distribution of all supplies and materials; maintain stock; monitor expiration dates; rotate stock; ensure critical supplies are monitored; conduct daily inventory; resolve record differences; deliver supplies timely; prepare specialty carts.
- Oversee receipt of supplies into the medical center.
- Ensure supplies are unpacked and properly stored.
- Analyze and resolve difficult issues and problems.
- Conduct market research on new products.
- Ensure availability of recurring supply items.
- Analyze management reports; manage fund control point limitations; identify trends.
- Work with vendor community and staff on logistics issues.
- Communicate with subordinate and other staff to coordinate logistics activities.
- Work schedule:
8:00AM – 4:30PM Monday – Friday.
