Construction Technician - Construction Materials Testing

Overview

Construction Technician – Construction Materials Testing (CMT) – Memphis, Tennessee. Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is actively seeking a CMT Technician to join our Professional Services Industries (Intertek-PSI) team in Memphis. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in the architecture, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry.

Intertek's Building and Construction division provides project-related assurance, testing, inspection and consulting services to ensure reliability, safety and performance of new developments, existing assets and facilities.

• Performs a variety of testing, project-specific observations and site assessment duties under general supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures.
• Operates testing equipment and conducts testing (e.g., soil, concrete or other) and provides assessment of data through reporting.
• Works utilizing drawings, specifications, and diagrams.
• Uses specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks.
• Makes detailed observations and provides limited interpretation of results.
• Maintains detailed documentation and data from test results.
• Operates a calculator to calculate mathematical test results.
• Communicates effectively with clients and project teams.
• Adheres to safety practices and policies to ensure personal safety and the safety of others at the job site.

• Five or more years of experience performing field construction materials testing required.
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I Certification required.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and solid interpersonal abilities.
• External (or task-related) certifications based on region and state may be required.
• Basic math, calculator, and computer skills are required.
• Ability to read and understand work plans.
• Must be able to work off shift and overtime as needed.
• Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record required.

• Ability to lift/move/push/pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to discern sound.
• Ability to kneel and squat occasionally.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold).
• Ability to climb occasionally.

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience performing field and/or construction materials testing and/or inspections is preferred.
• Additional industry certifications (ACI/ICC/TDOT) highly preferred.
• No experience required – in-house training is offered.
