This part‑time Site Director supports the School Age Before and After School site, planning and implementing activities, executing daily lesson plans, and supervising staff. The Director ensures participants’ safety, fosters growth, and maintains relationships with YMCA, school staff, and participants.
Purpose Of PositionThis position supports the mission of YMCA of Memphis & Mid‑South by providing a safe, nurturing environment for youth development.
Essential Functions- Model the YMCA core values:
Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility - Oversee the operation of a small to medium before/after school site (average of 20–99 students), supporting seasonal camps
- Maintain state and local policies, licensing standards, conduct inspections
- Implement a daily curriculum per YMCA guidelines; maintain lesson plans, calendars, and daily records
- Actively lead and engage 15–20 children in activities and transitions
- Prepare and transform program space into a child‑friendly environment
- Supervise staff schedules, coverage, training, and development
- Attend staff meetings and in‑service training
- Build and maintain positive relationships with school community (principal, assistants, teachers, support staff)
- Communicate with parents, conduct parent conferences, and run a parent advisory board twice a year
- Maintain DHS child care licensing files for staff and children
- Assist with billing and collection of balances
- Control supplies and inventory and maintain snack purchases
- Participate in YMCA volunteer programs and the Annual Support Campaign
- Carry out special projects and office duties as assigned

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; conflict resolution and sound judgment
- Highly organized, works under pressure, handles multiple tasks

- Flexible schedule – evenings and weekends
- Minimum 21 years of age
- Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent plus four years of child development experience, or enrollment in TECTA certificate; OR
- Two years of college (including 30 hours in business, management, child or youth development) plus two years of group experience; OR
- Four‑year degree plus one year of full‑time group experience
New hire must complete 11 hours of training:
- New Hire Orientation
- DHS Background Disclosure Form & Fingerprint appointment
- Abuse Registry Check
- DHS Physical health form
- Proof of education
