The University of Memphis’ College of Education, Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership, is seeking a dynamic colleague to fill a full-time, nine‑month, non‑tenure‑track Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor Teaching‑Instructional Design and Technology position. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of excellent teaching, a commitment to program development, and a passion for community and professional outreach. The role is based at the University’s Main Campus in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Instructional Design and Technology program is committed to fostering a supportive professional environment. The successful candidate’s teaching, service, and scholarship should reflect a strong commitment to and experience with:

  • Educational technology.
  • Student‑centered practices.

The start date for this position is August 17 2026. The department is not currently offering sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instruction:
    Teach a variety of online courses in instructional design, artificial intelligence, learning analytics, and multimedia development.
  • Program Coordination:
    Lead the IDT undergraduate minor program, which includes student recruitment, advising, and curriculum development.
  • Community Engagement:
    Develop and manage a vibrant community for current, prospective, and former students through workshops, symposiums, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Outreach & Partnerships:
    Coordinate and expand outreach efforts and partnerships with regional businesses, healthcare providers, non‑profits, and K‑12 school systems.
  • Student Advising:
    Advise doctoral students and serve on dissertation committees.
  • Recruiting:
    Manage marketing and recruitment efforts for all IDT programs (undergraduate minor, graduate certificate, master’s, and doctoral programs).
Minimum Position Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree in instructional design, learning sciences, or a closely related field, awarded no later than August 1 2026.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness or potential in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Proven experience and effectiveness in online teaching environments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, machine learning, visual analytics, learning analytics, human‑computer interaction, multimedia development, augmented/virtual reality, or external consulting.
  • Demonstrated success with program coordination, including student recruitment and program marketing.
  • Experience with outreach and partnership‑building in business, industry, and/or K‑12 settings.
  • Proven success in promoting and managing sustained online learning communities.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in a relevant field (e.g., organizational learning, K‑12, or higher education).
  • Identifiable success in advising or mentoring students.
  • Experience serving on, chairing, or co‑chairing dissertation committees.
  • A record of scholarly publications and/or presentations.
  • Eligibility for Full Member Graduate Faculty status.
