Part‑Time Director of Children’s Ministry, Mullins UMC (Memphis, TN)

Position SummaryThe director of children’s ministry at Mullins United Methodist Church is responsible for leading and nurturing the spiritual development of our youngest disciples, from birth through 6th grade. This position focuses on providing a loving, Christ-centered environment where children can grow in faith, learn biblical truths and experience God’s love through worship, learning and fellowship.
Primary Responsibilities Curriculum Planning and Teaching- Develop, select and implement age-appropriate Christian education curriculum for three classes:
- Little Steppers (Infancy‑Preschool)
- Pathfinders (Kindergarten–3rd Grade)
- Trailblazers (4th–6th Grade)
- Assist with/Lead the Trailblazers Sunday School Class (4th–6th Grade) each week, providing engaging, Bible-based lessons and activities.
- Recruit, train and support volunteers and teachers for the nursery and early children’s classes.
- Ensure all curriculum aligns with United Methodist theology and the mission of Mullins UMC.
- Plan and coordinate quarterly events for children that encourage fellowship, faith formation and family involvement.
- Organize and lead holiday events, including special programs for Easter and Christmas.
- Develop and oversee the Vacation Bible School (VBS) each summer, including curriculum selection, volunteer coordination, promotion and implementation.
- Communicate regularly with parents, volunteers and church staff to promote children’s ministry activities and opportunities.
- Maintain records of attendance, curriculum and volunteers.
- Ensure all volunteers adhere to church safety and child protection policies.
- Participate in staff meetings and church planning sessions as needed.
- Operate and maintain a budget for the program and report to the Board of Trustees.
- Serve as a member of the Mullins’ Worship Team.
- A growing and mature Christian faith, committed to the mission and values of the United Methodist Church.
- Experience in children’s ministry, education or related field preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents and volunteers.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for teaching children about God’s love.
- ~20 hours/week
- Opportunities for flexibility in some aspects of schedule
