What You’ll Be DoingJob Summary: Responsible for performing complete design of less complex civil/structural engineering assignments. With experience at this level, you are expected to assist in design of larger and more complex civil/structural assignments under close supervision.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Familiarity with department design and drafting standards.
- Familiarity with project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.
- Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the simplest, most efficient approach.
- Produce estimate‑level preliminary designs and material take‑offs suitable for the level of the estimate.
- Produce detailed design calculations and sketches for construction materials; calculations should be neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking.
- Produce designs with efficient use of construction materials, emphasizing ease of construction and meeting client expectations.
- Check calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and conformance.
- Assist drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems, furnishing sufficient sketches and details.
- Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure smooth flow of vital information.
- Advise senior engineer concerning design or scope changes identified.
- Review and check vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for civil/structural input.
- Review fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform fieldwork necessary to gather field data, check tie‑ins, and provide construction support.
- Develop construction specifications.
- Knowledgeable of discipline‑specific methods, practices, and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projects.

Ideal BackgroundEducation: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university; structural coursework required.
Registration: Engineer in Training (EIT) registration strongly preferred;
Professional Engineering registration preferred upon eligibility.
Experience: 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge and application of the International Building Code and associated standards.
- Develop expertise with civil/structural analysis software.
- Knowledgeable of discipline‑specific methods, practices, and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projects.
- Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Good communication skills, verbal and written.
- Virtual team skills and cross‑divisional relationships to support interoffice execution.
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
