Position Overview

The Field Geologist plays a key role in delivering high-quality technical work across a wide range of geotechnical and environmental projects. This position is ideal for someone who loves being outdoors, enjoys hands-on problem-solving, and wants to apply their academic training in real-world field conditions. You’ll receive extensive practical training to build on your educational foundation while gaining experience with drilling operations, soil and rock logging, sampling, and field inspections.

Responsibilities
  • Locate, observe, log field borings, probes, and test pits from plan
  • Participate in drilling and sampling operations using manual or power-operated hand augering
  • Install, read, and interpret field instruments such as observation wells, inclinometers
  • Perform observations of field activities for compliance with project objectives and prepare reports documenting activities
  • Practice loss prevention
  • Provide liaison with subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives to achieve satisfactory field performance
  • Alert the project leader or supervisor of difficulties encountered, cost/time overruns, change in scope requested by client, potential liability exposure, or any other matter pertinent to satisfactory completion of the project
  • Project a positive image of the Firm in all professional/personal activities
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements
  • Follow safety plans, programs, and policies
  • Conduct periodic jobsite safety assessments
  • Participate in group safety meetings and jobsite tailgate safety
  • Complete assigned safety-related tasks
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a closely related field
  • Ability to obtain Fundamentals of Geology (FG) certification within 6 months
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools such as Teams or Share Point
  • Knowledge of basic environmental regulations (e.g., USEPA, state-level programs)
  • Exposure to Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments or field sampling methods (internship or coursework preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills with emerging technical writing experience
Travel Requirements
  • This position requires moderate travel, up to approximately 70% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be scheduled or on short notice depending on project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments. Adherence to all company safety protocols and PPE use is required during travel and on-site work.
