Engineer 2 responsibilities:
- Apply engineering principles to the design and development of electric, gas, or water distribution facilities, depending on area of concentration.
- Design, plan, and oversee improvements, additions, and replacements of distribution facilities.
- Prepare and review drawings, material specifications, costs, and layout methods.
- Provide technical assistance to consultants, developers, and contractors; prepare estimates, work authorizations, and procedures for field personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Perform computer analysis for assigned utility systems; test for malfunctions and propose corrections.
- Evaluate new products and equipment, test installations, and prepare reports of results; review obsolete or surplus items for potential reuse.
- Decide on construction changes during work; review reports on leaks or outages and make recommendations.
- Coordinate departmental work with other divisions, government agencies, and contractors.
- Conduct field trips to gather data, take measurements, and inspect utility construction.
- Stay current on engineering developments, rules, regulations, codes, and maintain a library of industry materials.
- Perform other duties as directed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, depending on expertise required.
- Experience requirements vary with departmental needs.
- Leadership qualities to motivate and direct employees; organizational ability; strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to apply engineering principles and methods to utility design; spatial perception, mathematical ability, and attention to detail.
- Successfully complete NIMS training within one year of entering the position.
- Valid driver’s license from the state of residence.

Working Conditions:
Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, with the potential to lift 10 pounds or more on a regular basis.
