AboutThe Role
- Act as a strategic partner to Controllers of designated facilities, serving as an integral member of the finance team responsible for overseeing all capital and fixed asset processes and general ledger accounts.
- Facilitate monthly reviews of capital project status with Engineering Managers and Project Engineers, addressing ongoing and upcoming projects, retirements, and project closures.
- Collaborate closely with the Engineering team at facilities to fulfill requests related to capital projects, service accruals, engineering hours, ad-hoc reporting, and provide support as necessary.
- Validate capital projects in SAP project systems, identify P&L impacts from retirements, and assist in forecasting for Controllers, overseeing projects from inception to completion.
- Ensure accurate accounting of asset management transactions and timely reconciliation of PP&E related accounts.
- Uphold compliance with corporate policies and GAAP standards in capital and fixed asset accounting practices.
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls to enable precise and punctual financial reporting.
- Calculate and post necessary general ledger entries.
- Lead Annual Physical Asset Inventories, involving travel to facilities to verify fixed assets, fostering strong relationships with Controllers, Engineering Managers, and Finance personnel, and identifying opportunities for process enhancement.
- Continuously optimize centralized processes for efficiency and effectiveness, adapting to evolving business needs.
- Calculate and review annual accretion schedules for Landfill ARO, including quarterly ARO Roll forward preparation.
- Support Fixed Asset Tax in Quarterly and Annual Reporting, encompassing capital project Tax forecasts, appropriate asset classifications, and coding in accordance with tax laws.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 3+ years of Finance or Accounting experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related degree
- Knowledge of key internal controls as they relate to Fixed Assets
- Functional understanding of SAP
- Financial accounting experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Basic understanding of pulp and paper mill operations preferred
