Position Overview

Provide legal counsel and advice to the company and its subsidiary to ensure optimal business outcomes in accordance with federal, state and local employment laws.

• Provide legal advice and guidance to Fed Ex Freight business partners on employment law issues.
• Handle employment related matters such as employee terminations, EEOC charges and state administrative charges, DOL issues, FLSA reviews, and other government audits.
• Monitor and interpret changes to and trends in government and legislative matters at the federal, state, local or international level related to employment law issues. Determine company impact and advise senior management accordingly and recommend and implement specific company responses to changes in governmental and legislative policies.
• Support the planning and execution phases of various company products, services and projects influencing a course of action that balances optimal business results with legal and regulatory concerns.
• Perform complex research and investigations; design, draft, and submit documents concerning legal issues to maintain compliance with various laws and regulations; provide legal interpretation of laws and regulations. Draft and review legal documents and review proposed transactions to ensure maximum benefit to the corporation and minimum exposure to risk.
• Communicate and negotiate with external parties, such as government authorities and counsel for third parties.
• Render assistance and counsel to all divisions and departments on the meaning and application of the company’s policies and procedures and on other legal matters to ensure compliance with applicable law and consistency with other policies in terms of company philosophy and goals.
• Assist HR clients in periodic review of various policies and procedures.
• Provide education to leadership on employment law compliance.
• Collaborate with management to devise efficient compliance and defense strategies.
• Provide direction to outside counsel and vendors hired to assist the company with specialized legal services.
• Perform independent special projects of a legal and confidential nature for the department or company, as assigned.
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Sound judgement and ability to quickly and effectively analyze situations and information

• Juris Doctorate degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and admission to the Bar plus twelve (12) years’ experience as an attorney with at least one (1) year of Fed Ex Experience and three (3) years’ of experience practicing in the employment law area
• In-depth knowledge of employment laws
• Excellent research, negotiation, communication, and human relations skills

• Juris Doctorate degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and appropriate admission to required state Bar plus ten (10) years’ experience and demonstrated competence as a practicing attorney in the employment law area (both federal and state)
• Strong negotiation and human relations skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Juris Doctorate degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and appropriate admission to required state Bar plus six (6) years’ experience and demonstrated competence as a practicing attorney in the employment law area (both federal and state)
• Strong negotiation and human relations skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

This position will be domiciled at a Fed Ex Freight location in Memphis, TN, Harrison, AR, or North Canton, OH. You will be required to work at a Fed Ex Freight location several times per week.
