JOB SUMMARY

Coordinates and supervises activities of hourly warehouse employees to ensure the efficient movement of goods and materials, accountable for sanitation control, placement of finished goods and provides essential communication to the Warehouse Manager in the processing of reports and inventory control.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Managing, evaluating and reporting on warehouse productivity
  • Assign trucks to proper loading docks
  • Inspect vehicles for equipment condition, leaks, odors, etc., and reject or accept vehicles for loading. Supplies Warehouse Manager with daily railcar inspection report
  • Notify Traffic Coordinator when trucks arrive and the condition of equipment
  • Calculate layout of product in vehicles for correct weight distribution and stability during transit to ensure the product arrives to customer in good condition
  • Supervise assigned loading crews daily. The number of people varies depending on shipping volume
  • Ensure proper stock rotation by daily monitoring finished goods inventory
  • Take physical inventory of finished goods on a weekly basis or when requested by Accounting Department
  • Supervise and document adherence to sanitation schedules and routine cleanup
  • Take inventory and orders operating supplies as needed, such as pallets, dunnage, dunnage bags, etc.
  • Train and oversee hourly employees in the proper and safe procedures for loading/unloading vehicles, use of dock equipment, forklifts, and the proper placement of product
  • Ensure warehouse labor is properly utilized during idle periods
  • Train and certify forklift operators to comply with OSHA standards. Regularly hold forklift operator meetings
  • Maintain records regarding MSDS and HACCP requirements
  • Instruct personnel on safe work habits and regularly hold safety meetings; ensure proper and timely medical attention and preparation of injury report in the event of an accident
  • Impose verbal and/or written disciplinary action, when necessary, consistent with the union contract and plant work rules; at least annually, performance reviews on all hourly employees under direct supervision
  • Check and approve payroll and initiate change of status forms such as completion of probation, vacation request, holiday, sick, birthday, etc.
  • Communicate with maintenance personnel and Warehouse Manager mechanical problems with warehouse equipment
  • Safeguard company assets and communicate with security personnel on a continual basis
  • Perform any other duties assigned by Warehouse Manager
JOB SPECIFICATIONS

College degree preferred.

  • Have at least 3 years of management experience in a high-volume warehousing and/or distribution operation, preferably in the food service industry
  • Have a good working knowledge of the principal food distribution disciplines such as supply chain, data processing, transportation, and warehousing
  • 2-5 years knowledge of WMS with an emphasis on SAP
  • Certified Forklift Operator
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • 90% of time walking and standing
  • Ability to read, identify, calculate and record data to perform, prepare narrative reports
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate good mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to give direction and provide leadership to team
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment in decision making
  • Ability to climb and work at heights
  • Strength and ability to lift and handle objects weighing 50 lbs
