Responsibilities

Managing the production of the required grades of finished product in accordance with quality specifications, at or better than budgeted volume levels and within budgeted per-case equivalent costs.

Coordinate with maintenance to ensure the production equipment is maintained in good condition and preventive maintenance is supported to minimize reliability breakdowns.

Lead and/or participate in root cause failure analysis efforts including the development and follow through of action plans to improve efficiencies.

Identify opportunities to increase efficiency on assigned assets, reduce costs and reduce downtime for such things as grade changes, cleanings, etc.

Monitor the paper quality and ensure that all quality specifications are being met.

Identify, coordinate and lead training opportunities for operational leaders and their employees assigned to assets. This may include mentoring operational and troubleshooting skills, vendor training, on-the-job training, participation in the development of Standard Operations Procedures and standardizing best practices for operating the equipment.

Manage and coordinate grade change activities for the assets they are assigned ownership.

Responsible for conducting and working with the quality and technical teams on new product trials in an efficient and timely manner.

Track and manage labor and expense dollars, production rates, machine efficiencies and waste, material usage, and maintenance performance on assigned assets using daily, weekly and monthly reports from accounting.

Manage employees’ work performance.

Provide safety leadership support which may include safety observations, promoting good safety practices by employees assigned to their assets, incident investigations, etc.

Reports to the Converting Manager.

Qualifications

Must have 2 years of management work experience in the converting, operations, production, maintenance, or a related department of a pulp and tissue paper plant, which experience shall include the following:
2 years of experience with converting Original Equipment Manufacturers, including Paper Converting Machine Company, Infinity, Tissue Machinery Company, Bretting, Electric 80, Signode, Columbia, and Edson;
2 years of experience with pulp and tissue paper equipment;
2 years of experience in preventative maintenance;
2 years of experience supervising and training employees.
