Winding Technician

A Winding Technician is responsible for rewinding, repairing, and maintaining electric motors,generators, and other rotating equipment. This position requires attention todetail, mechanical aptitude, and experience working with various windingtechniques and insulation materials.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and assess the condition of electric motorsand generators to determine the extent of winding damage.
• Disassemble, clean, and inspect motor components,including stators, rotors, and armatures.
• Rewind motors by stripping old windings, preparingcoils, and installing new windings according to specifications.
• Utilize precision tools and equipment to ensure proper alignment and electrical characteristics of rewound motors.
• Perform testing of rewound motors, includingresistance, insulation, and surge testing, to verify proper functionality.
• Ensure all repairs meet or exceed industry standard sand customer specifications.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace and adhereto all safety protocols.
• Assist in troubleshooting and failure analysis to identify root causes of motor failures.
• Operate specialized winding machines, hand tools, andmeasuring devices.
• Complete documentation of work performed, includingtest results and motor specifications.
• Work collaboratively with other technicians and departments to ensure efficient workflow and quality repairs.

Qualifications & Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in motor winding or electrical repair preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as an electric motorwinder or in a related field.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electricalschematics, blueprints, and winding data sheets.
• Strong knowledge of insulation materials, wire types,and motor rewinding techniques.
• Experience using test equipment such as megohmmeters,surge testers, and multimeters.
• Ability to lift heavy equipment and stand for extended periods.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention todetail.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with AC and DC motor rewinding.
• Knowledge of motor balancing, bearing replacement,and general motor repair techniques.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as EASA(Electrical Apparatus Service Association) best practices.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Ability to stand, bend, and work in confined spacesas needed.
• Manual dexterity for handling small wires and components.
• Shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and electrical components.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required to meet deadlines.
