A laser operator is responsible for operating and maintaining laser cutting or engraving machines in various industrial settings. This role involves interpreting design specifications, setting up laser equipment, and programming it to cut or engrave materials such as metal. Laser operators need to monitor the machine's performance, troubleshoot any issues that arise, and make adjustments to ensure precision and quality in the finished products.
Attention to detail, knowledge of laser technology, and the ability to work with computer‑aided design (CAD) software are crucial for success in this role.
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot a laser
- Read prints, work orders, or production schedules
- Use tools to ensure efficiency and correct operation of the machine
- Use laser cutting and punching machines to produce metal shapes and holes that fit other parts
- Ensure production of all parts meets OI quality standards by utilizing internal quality processes and SOP
- Assist with material breakout and movement of parts to next production area when assigned
- Accurately work with calipers, squares, gauges, protractors, and other measuring tools
- Have good math ability and problem‑solving skills
- Read and interpret blueprints efficiently
- Stand continuously and lift objects up to 50 pounds
- Demonstrate safety in the laser operation process
