A Brief OverviewFunctions as an Advanced Practice Nurse collaboratively with physician sponsor/s providing leadership of the clinical care team and acts as a change agent for a specific patient population by incorporating the role of clinical expert, role model, consultant, educator, practitioner, researcher, and nurse leader. Provides clinical expertise to individual patients/families and/or groups of patients/families by providing direct and indirect patient care.
Collaborates with the health care team in assessing, designing, implementing, and evaluating population‑based programs of patient care to enhance high‑quality, cost‑effective patient outcomes. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
- Clinical Practice Expert:
Provides advanced level of direct and indirect care to individual patients/families and/or groups of patients/families in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members. - Education/Clinical Staff Development:
Provides leadership and collaborates with other health professionals and educational resources to establish staff education programs to address the specific needs of populations of patients. - Evidence‑Based Consultant & Researcher:
Demonstrates collaborative leadership with researchers, other health professionals, divisions, and departments to generate knowledge and make practice changes based on research findings, as well as, the results of the organizational and departmental quality improvement processes. - Clinical Leadership:
Provides leadership in meeting system, organizational, division, and departmental goals. - Demonstrates accountability for professional responsibilities and self‑development.
- Master's Degree Advanced Practice Nursing,
- Master's Degree Nursing or
- Doctorate Advanced Practice Nursing required
- 3-5 years General nursing or clinical practice
- Advanced Practice Nurse Tennessee – Tennessee Board of Nursing,
- Advanced Practice Nurse Mississippi – Mississippi Board of Nursing or
- Advanced Practice Nurse Arkansas – Arkansas State Board of Nursing required
- BASIC LIFE SUPPORT – American Heart Association required
- DEA (DEA) – Drug Enforcement Administration required
- Registered Nurse Arkansas – Arkansas State Board of Nursing,
- Registered Nurse Mississippi – Mississippi Board of Nursing or
- Registered Nurse Tennessee – Tennessee Board of Nursing required
- Nurse Practitioner certification (ANCC) – American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC),
- Nurse Practitioner certification (AANP) – American Association of Nurse Practitioners,
- Nurse Practitioner certification (AACN) – American Association of Critical Care Nurses Certification Corporation,
- Nurse Practitioner certification (CPNP) – Pediatric Nursing Certification Board or
- Nurse Practitioner certification (NCC) – National Certification Corporation required
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles, and professional techniques in a specialized field of nursing. Such proficiency is acquired through completion of a master’s degree or higher in a nursing specialty and is demonstrated through national specialty certification as a nurse practitioner.
