Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate - Basic and Translational Research Training in Pediatric Classi[...]

Overview

St. Jude is seeking outstanding candidates for postdoctoral fellowship positions in pediatric classical hematology. Research areas of interest include hematopoiesis, hemostasis/thrombosis, and non-malignant blood diseases, such as sickle cell disease, bone marrow failure syndromes, and myeloproliferative disorders. This premier NHLBI-sponsored T32 training program leverages the exceptional research infrastructure e to train top-tier postdoctoral fellows with the necessary skills to lead independent research programs in laboratory-based classical hematology.

Postdoctoral mentors associated with the program represent seven basic science and clinical departments across the institution. These faculty are leaders in their respective fields with expertise in basic and translational research in pediatric classical hematology, with special emphasis on genomics, gene regulation, and cutting-edge experimental model systems and approaches to mechanistic cell and molecular biology. Trainees will greatly benefit from the interdisciplinary approach and collaborative nature of participating faculty, and collaboration between mentors is encouraged to provide a cross-disciplinary approach to the training program.

Fellows will receive training in state-of-the-art approaches in bulk and single-cell
-omics, gene editing, functional genomics, and in vitro and in vivo models of hematologic disease. This is complemented by training in the execution of statistically rigorous, hypothesis-driven research that probes the mechanistic basis of hematologic disease, uncovers new therapeutic targets, and translates these targets to preclinical models of hematologic disease. All trainees will be instructed in grant writing, rigor and reproducibility, research ethics, and salient professional development topics.

St. Jude offers highly competitive stipends and robust support for its trainees. This program aims to address the critical shortage of biomedical trainees focused on classical hematology by equipping them with the excitement, knowledge, and skills to make new biological discoveries and use modern tools for genetic and pharmacological manipulation to develop new therapies.

Responsibilities
  • Engage in training across state-of-the-art methodologies in bulk and single-cell
-omics, gene editing, functional genomics, and in vitro and in vivo models of hematologic disease.
  • Contribute to hypothesis-driven, mechanistic research aimed at understanding hematologic disease, identifying therapeutic targets, and translating findings to preclinical models.
  • Participate in grant writing, rigor and reproducibility, research ethics, and professional development activities.
Qualifications
  • PhD, MD (or equivalent), DVM, Pharm

D, or other advanced degree in a relevant field; excellent communication skills.
  • Applicants to positions funded by the T32 training grant must be citizens of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of appointment.
