Your Opportunity as the Technologist Coffee Research & Development – Products Research

You will play a critical role on the coffee products research team, acting as the voice of the consumer across all coffee brands including Folgers, Dunkin', and Café Bustelo. With coaching, you will design and execute research to translate consumer understanding into technical metrics for prototype development. Expectations for this role include leveraging critical thinking skills to define consumer criteria for innovation and product improvement projects, maintaining strong written documentation of research results, and displaying a collaborative and adaptable mindset willing to enhance agility in a fast-paced environment.

Location

Orrville, OH Corporate Offices (hybrid work flexibility following Presence with Purpose expectations, estimated from 25-60% onsite presence based on business needs)

In this role you will:

• Translate consumer success criteria into technical metrics.
• Leverage the Product Research Team to guide project teams in claim & graphic/label reviews and product release processes.
• Verify that products meet success criteria and identify risks with mitigation plans for products that fall short.
• Partner with lab technicians to execute PR scheduler requests and prepare coffee samples for screening.
• Conduct research to understand consumer needs, identify minimum consumer-driven success criteria for product design, and facilitate consumer-driven product model definition.
• Assess the competitive landscape for differentiation opportunities.
• Understand the uses and limitations of internal testing tools and communicate these to stakeholders.
• Collaborate within R&D and cross-functional teams to achieve project goals, foster continuous improvement, and participate in &E initiatives.
• Receive qualification as a Technical Readiness Lead and Cupper within the Coffee Product Development team.

What we are looking for:

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Science, Technology, or Engineering
• Minimum research & development experience equivalent to at least one internship, co-op, work-study, or research lab experience
• Effective presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
• Proficient in adhering to procedures
• Ability to work under moderate supervision within guidelines and processes
• Strong critical thinking and scientific method skills
• Ability to analyze and summarize data
• Willingness to taste coffee beverages (Dairy experience is a plus)
• Willingness and comfort with intermittent travel up to 25%

Additional skills and experience that would be beneficial:

• JMP/statistical analysis software experience
• Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) experience
• Experience with GLP
• Qualitative and quantitative analysis experience
• Relevant experience in the beverage or food industry
• Research and/or sensory research exposure in the coffee industry
• Experience working in a R&D lab environment
• Experience with sensory panels
