Ross Stores, Inc. invites applications for the Area Supervisor position. This role is part of our Store Leadership team responsible for supervising associates, ensuring a safe shopping environment and managing daily store operations.

General Purpose

As part of Store Leadership, the Area Supervisor is responsible for a specific assigned area of the store, general operations, and supervision when functioning as Manager on Duty. Duties include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining merchandise presentation, and keeping a clean work area.

Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
  • Practice safety first and maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor.
  • Correct or report unsafe conditions or practices immediately.
  • Secure building entrances/exits, equipment, and cash office.
  • Ensure safe egress and remove clutter.
  • Respond to accident situations and test fire alarm systems as scheduled.
Customer Service
  • Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Show courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and enforce the Company dress code.
  • Keep all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
General Merchandising
  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to Company standards.
  • Receive merchandise trucks when needed and process all merchandise with urgency.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of stockrooms.
  • Assist in moving and signing merchandise on the sales floor.
  • Ensure back‑stock is secured and processed according to Company policy.
  • Maintain compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in assigned areas.
Loss Prevention
  • Comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong customer‑service presence.
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit cards, and merchandise.
  • Maintain the Public View Monitor system and conduct package inspections.
  • Execute Company best practices to maximize productivity and minimize risks.
Front End Supervision and Operations
  • Ensure Associates at the front end follow Company standards and best practices.
  • Maintain pace, energy, and presence at the front end to expedite customer wait times.
  • Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and other front‑end procedures.
  • Control associate break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks.
  • Ensure all equipment is working and supplies are available.
  • Expedite go‑backs, ensuring proper scanning, security tagging, and ticketing.
Fitting Rooms
  • Maintain the cleanliness of fitting rooms.
  • Audit fitting‑room garment tags and ensure compliance with company policy.
  • Guarantee go‑back compliance throughout the day.
Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager
  • Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits per Company policy.
  • Administer front‑end controls when needed, including refund approval and register procedures.
  • Manage payroll administration, including punch edits and scheduling compliance.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.

  • Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.
  • Basic mathematical calculation ability.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
  • Stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of working time.
  • Regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
